I have been wanting to learn how to knit for quite awhile now, but just haven't gotten my shiz together enough to actually do it. Well, now that I am having this little groundhog baby, I figured why not now? It will give me something to do while watching TV in the evenings instead of compulsively surfing the web (not that I do that). Plus I thought it would be nice to knit the little bugger his/her first baby blankey (I know, insert cutesy puke noises here). I am SOOO not crafty or artsy, so guaranteed it will be awful, but everyone will be so afraid of my volatile hormones they will tell me what a natural talent I am and beg me for lots and lots of scarves and mittens. For reals. Just wait. As a matter of fact, put your orders in now, disbelievers!
I actually ended up signing up for two courses; beginning knitting on Tuesdays for 4 weeks, and beginning crochet on Thursdays, also for 4 weeks. I used to know how to crochet many years ago thanks to my late Grandma Mickey, but can't remember how any more. I was super excited to begin my nesting process, and Mr Wonk was looking forward to some alone time in the evenings with the Wii. Win/win! Then I get the phone calls, one right after the other. The knitting class is postponed until August because the instructor is on "vacation." Selfish cow. Then, I get the call from the crochet class. That class is postponed a week, but might also be cancelled because they need just ONE MORE PERSON to sign up. Seriously?!? I called today about the crochet class, and still no new enrollees. Bummer. I still have my hopes up. Regardless, I will learn how to do knit and crochet, just later rather than sooner. Patience, Wonk, patience. In the meantime I am going to focus on trying to find a good yoga class to take after work. I have been doing yoga at home with my Wii Fit and that really helps my achiness, but I really want to get back into the studio for a real workout.

Tummy Pics-Approximately 10 Weeks
I am going to try and take weekly pictures for the next, oh, 30 weeks or so, of my growing belly. Right now I am not showing at all, so its not so bad. I might start to freak as I get bigger in the future, but I will try and set my vanity aside push on through. Pun absolutely intended. Also, excuse the PJs, but its Sunday and if I can get away with not wearing street clothes all day, then dagnabbit, its a good day!

First Doctor Appointment
I meant to write about this last night, but I unexpectedly ended up having a pretty full day yesterday. I had my first doctor appointment and it turns out that I am in fact pregnant. Phew! So far, the doctor say everything looks great. I am 9 weeks along, but that is doctor-speak for 7 weeks pregnant. My next appointment is in July 28th, and that's when they will do the Doppler to listed for fetal heart tones. That is the visit I am really looking forward to, beside the full-on ultrasound when we get to find out the sex.
There is one decision I have to make right now, and that is whether to get the test to check for Down Syndrome. I am a little torn on this because at this point, it wouldn't change anything for me as far as the pregnancy is concerned. It would just be a head's up for a tougher than expected road ahead. Taking the test also seems a little callous to me. It may seem trite, but I also just finsished reading The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards not too long ago. [Spoiler Alert!] It starts in the 1960s, and due to foul weather a doctor must birth his own twins while his wife is under sedation. He immediately recognizes one with "mongoloid" characteristics and gives her away without ever telling his wife. Eventually the regret and sorrow destroys him and almost everyone involved, but the little girl grows up to be a beautiful, sweet, and functional woman. So again, what difference would a test make? After some gentle interrogation of the doctor, I finally got it out of her that about 80% of women/couples decide to get the test, mostly for peace of mind. Which I guess makes sense. So I am going to discuss with Baby's Daddy and see what his thoughts are on the subject. I will probably go ahead and do it because the window closes to do it in a couple weeks. I know myself well enough to know that I will probably get some serious Preggo Paranoia in the future and start to freak out about every little thing. So I might have to do it to spare Future Me an anxiety attack or two. Or Dozen. I'll thank me later.

A New Blog is Conceived, Gestated, and Born
As you know from my other blog, The World Wide Web of Wonky Weeze, I made a pretty dramatic announcement last week. My boyfriend and I will be becoming parents for the first time in February of 2009! Since this is a first for both of us, I have decided to blog about my pregnancy to keep a record of the experience for myself as well as for friends and family. I have thought a lot about how and even whether to do this, but I ultimately felt that I would be doing a disservice to myself, baby-daddy, my friends and family, and most importantly to the wee-one kickin' it inside my belly if I didn't. Be warned, eventually after this little tadpole decides to ditch me and take a whack at the outside world, this will become more of a *gulp* Mommy Blog. But I am getting waaayyy ahead of myself and don't need to give myself a panic attack right about now.
So there you go, my first preggo blog entry! Baby is sucking all the energy out of me right now, so must be going, but a couple quick things first:
1) I have my first doctors appointment tomorrow which I am really excited for!
2) I am also scared that I will find out that I am really not pregnant tomorrow and this has all been some terrible mistake and I have some weird disease that mimics pregnancy-like symptoms. That would suck.
Anyway--I'll give the post-doctor visit update tomorrow! Lates!
